Junior Team

The junior years are focussed on fostering independence and guiding students toward being self- directed learners.

Teachers work as a team to develop an ‘at needs’ program and are invested in all students in this area.

In a junior classroom you will see:

  • A two hour literacy block each day incorporating Reading, Writing and Speaking and Listening.

  • A one hour numeracy block each day broken into Fluid Maths (focussed on Number), where students are grouped according their current like needs, and Classroom Maths (focussed on other areas of Mathematics).

  • Junior Rotations once a week, comprising three 40 minute sessions, covering areas such as Physical Education (in addition to that covered by the specialist program), Music, Science and Growth Mindset.

  • Specialists, including Arts, Physical Education and Language Studies for hour each per week.

  • Integrated Studies learning focussed on developing students’ understanding of the world.

  • Incursions and excursions to support the classroom program

The Camping Program for the junior students includes Little Night In (Grade One) and Big Night Out (Grade Two). The Little Night In is held in Term 4, with the prep students, for two hours after school. During this time students participate in an incursion and group games. The Big Night Out is also held in Term 4 and is an opportunity for the grade two students to participate in an organised activity (e.g. lawns bowls, rock climbing or bowling) out of the school grounds with their teachers for 3-4 hours after school.
